  • In this curricular unit, the Team-based learning (TBL) methodology is used, with tasks carried out in small groups, allowing the development of the ability to analyze and apply theoretical concepts.

  • Acquire general concepts of orthopedics, traumatology and rheumatology. Demonstrate mastery of key concepts in the biomedical sciences the anatomical level, topographic, biomechanical and physiological the human body. Identify and diagnose disease and the most common lesions of the musculoskeletal system, for evaluating therapeutic decisions. Apply the treatment and properly orient the patient in case you need care from other health professionals. Interpret test results and evidence included in the orthopedic evaluation process. Select auxiliary tests and run the rheumatologic diagnostic techniques. Ability to run a detailed examination objective and identify: the clinical signs associated with inflammation and structural damage of joints and periarticular structures; systemic involvement and organ associated with rheumatic diseases and their complications; diffuse or regional painful diseases.

    A classificação final (CF) da unidade curricular por avaliação contínua é obtida a partir das classificações adquiridas na componente escrita (T). A componente Teórica consta de duas frequências escritas e é relativa aos conteúdos teóricos. A classificação mínima em cada frequência é de 9,5 valores. A classificação final é calculada a partir da seguinte fórmula: CF = 0,50 T + 0,50 T. A classificação de todos os instrumentos de avaliação é expressa numa escala de 0 a 20 valores, sendo que o valor ponderado das classificações obtidas tem de ser igual ou superior a 9,5 valores.

  • Orthopedics involves the field which deals primarily with the branch concerning treating injuries and ailments of the Musculoskeletal system. Rheumatology incorporates the investigation, diagnosis, management and rehabilitation of patients with disorders of the musculoskeletal system i.e., the locomotor apparatus, bone and soft connective tissues. Understanding the sequelae of rheumatologic disease in childhood and adolescence is of paramount importance. The program of curricular unit imparts the students a thorough understanding of the current systems, technologies, and treatment of ailments related to muscles and skeleton, to provide students with the experience needed to effectively diagnose orthopedic and rheumatic pathologies. The development of a mature and professional approach in clinical practice is essential for safe and successful patient care.
