  • The aim is for students to strengthen their skills and awareness of the importance of sustainability and circularity through the project-based exercise. By the end of the module, students should be able to: O1: Understand the fundamental concepts of sustainable development, the circular economy and circular construction, placing them within the context of architecture and the built environment. O2: Recognise the environmental impacts of construction and the importance of life-cycle assessment for buildings and materials. O3: Integrate passive and bioclimatic architectural strategies to optimise the environmental and thermal performance of buildings. O4: Critically select and specify materials, components and construction techniques with low environmental impact and reduced carbon content. O5: Apply circular construction methodologies and techniques (reduction, reuse, repair, adaptation and recycling) in the development of a practical design proposal

  • The 'Sustainability and Circular Construction' module takes an interdisciplinary approach across the fields of architecture, construction, heritage, the circular economy, the environment and sustainable development. It provides a concise and integrated overview of the principles of sustainable development and circularity, as well as their relationship with and applicability to the built environment.
