Nuno Tavares da Costa (1975, Lisbon) is an architect, professor, and researcher. Graduated from FA-UTL (1999), holds a PhD in Architecture from ISCTE-IUL (2020), with a thesis on consciousness and language in the work of Paulo Mendes da Rocha, developed through the study of the new National Coach Museum, a project he coordinated and monitored between 2009-2017. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Design at ISMAT and an Integrated Researcher at DINÂMIA'CET-IUL, Cities and Territories group. His research focuses on architecture as a critical process, reconciling construction and reasoning. His studies explore the relationships between design, construction, ethics, and history, with particular attention to narratives of resistance, insurgency, and intellectual disobedience.
He has been Project Coordinator at Bak Gordon Arquitectos since the studio's foundation in 2002. Over more than two decades of professional practice, he has led, designed, managed, and monitored more than fifty projects and works in the areas of housing, education, and public facilities, both in Portugal and abroad. The work developed in collaboration with the studio has been widely recognised through publications, awards, and specialised reviews in national and international contexts.
