- The curricular unit adopts a supervised autonomous research methodology based on applied research and the progressive development of an original authorial proposal. The student-researcher presents weekly evidence of progress, which is discussed and validated by the lecturer. The process combines individual supervision, critical discussion, fieldwork, data analysis and representation, design development and intermediate formative assessment. Researchers, specialists and partner organisations may participate within the CITAI-DATA framework, introducing relevant methodologies, technologies and application cases. Digital and Generative AI tools may also be used critically, transparently and responsibly.
- Mandatory
- By the end of the curricular unit, students should be able to autonomously develop applied research in Architecture, Urban Design or Urbanism; deepen a previously formulated research question; build a grounded diagnosis; transform critical knowledge into intervention criteria; formulate and develop an original authorial proposal; justify conceptual, spatial, urban and technical decisions; assess the results, limitations and potentialities of the proposal; integrate contributions from specialists and external organisations when relevant; communicate the results in the form of a scientific article; and publicly present and defend the research with rigour, autonomy, critical thinking and academic integrity.
- DAAD - Department of Architecture, Arts and Design
- 1. Applied research and diagnosis Development of the research question. Methodological definition, survey, data collection and interpretation. Construction of a grounded diagnosis. 2. Intervention criteria and authorial proposal Transformation of acquired knowledge into intervention criteria. Formulation, development, representation and justification of an original authorial proposal. 3. Verification and discussion of results Critical assessment of the proposal, coherence between problem, diagnosis and solution, and identification of results, potentialities, limitations and research contributions. 4. Scientific communication Structuring the research as a scientific article. Critical, graphic and editorial review. Oral presentation, argumentation and public defence of the results.

- Semestral
- Seminar II develops advanced applied research skills in Architecture, Urban Design and Urbanism. It continues the work undertaken in Seminar I, transforming knowledge acquired through the state of the art and critical analysis into the basis for an original authorial proposal. The student-researcher develops the research autonomously, with weekly supervision and validation by the lecturer, combining diagnosis, theoretical grounding, proposal development, verification of results and scientific communication. The research culminates in the preparation, presentation and defence of a scientific article and may incorporate contributions from researchers, specialists and partner organisations within the CITAI-DATA framework.
