- Innovative methodologies supporting the teaching-learning process favour an active, participatory, and student-centred approach, linking theoretical knowledge with the interpretation of laboratory results in Clinical Pathology. Problem-based learning and clinical-laboratory case studies develop clinical reasoning, analytical capacity, decision-making, and the formulation of diagnostic hypotheses. The use of simulated or real analytical results, reference values, diagnostic algorithms, multimedia resources, and digital platforms supports the understanding of the relationship between pathogenesis, clinical evolution, and laboratory tests. Guided discussion of cases in Hematology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Immunology reinforces content integration. These methodologies encourage autonomy, critical thinking, collaborative learning, and the application of knowledge in a professional context.

- The Clinical Pathology curricular unit most often uses laboratory tests of body fluids, such as blood and urine, compared to the pathological anatomy, which uses tissue examination. Students will have the opportunity to understand the four major disciplines in Clinical Pathology: Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank / Transfusion Medicine and Microbiology. Additionally they will have the opportunity to address the area of immunology. In all these areas, students will be encouraged to participate in various formative dynamics, such as discussion of clinical cases. In the end, the student should be familiar with the proper use and interpretation of laboratory tests, the role of the clinical and public health technician, as well as recognize current technology and state-of-the-art equipment used in laboratory tests.
