- This curricular unit follows a theoretical-practical methodology. Each exercise begins with a theoretical and conceptual introduction, followed by a demonstration of procedures and techniques and tutorial support for exercises and assignments. Each assignment presented by the lecturer is accompanied by theoretical material, with reference to artists' drawings, photographs and videos to clarify the processes. The exercises alternate between quick sketches and sustained studies, based on live models and visual references. Experimentation with media and collective analysis of the work promote autonomy and critical reflection. 10% Continuous assessment, based on participation and attendance at a minimum of 75% of classes. Students whose attendance falls below this threshold must take an examination. 40% Drawings completed in class (traditional, mixed-media and digital techniques). 25% Drawings completed outside class (traditional, mixed-media and digital techniques). 25% Life drawing project.
- Mandatory
- Creatively explore tools, supports and procedures for manual and digital drawing. Apply the various types of representational drawing to develop authorial expression. Develop critical analysis skills and apply methods of construction and representation through direct and image-mediated observation of diverse models (objects, human figures and other organic and inorganic models). Understand structures, anatomy, proportions and volume. Explore the relationships between light and shadow, figure and ground, solid and void, opaque and transparent forms, isolated and grouped elements, and centred and dispersed arrangements. Develop visual memory and the capacity for synthesis in the representation of forms and poses.
- Modes of drawing: quick sketches, preliminary drawings and studies based on direct and image-mediated observation of diverse models. Free artistic exploration of traditional, mixed and digital media through observational drawing. Comprehension and simplification of the structures of organic and inorganic, animate and inanimate models, and of the human body. Methods and techniques of graphic recording, scale and framing, measured drawing and diagrammatic representation. Superimposition and photomontage. Metamorphosis. Human body: study of locomotion, figure and movement. Drawings that explore gesture. Drawings that explore contour, volume, modelling and contrast; line and tonal mass drawings. Drawings of the body in perspective (foreshortening). Drapery studies. Anatomical study of models: skeletal and muscular structures. The face and facial expressions. Drawing from memory: observation, retention and graphic reconstruction of models through previously acquired methods of representation.
10% Avaliação contínua, com participação e presença a 75% das aulas cujo incumprimento obriga a exame.

- Semestral
- An advanced curricular unit in representational drawing, building on Representation Drawing I and II, with a focus on the observation, analysis and graphic interpretation of diverse models, particularly the human figure. It combines manual, mixed and digital media and develops technical, perceptual and authorial skills relevant to illustration, design and visual communication.
