- This unit aims to provide an introduction to sensors, technologies and equipment for testing and measuring of the field. The fundamental concepts of Metrology are also taught, with corresponding practical application, through a strong laboratory component. The key skills to be developed are: 1. Familiarization with sensors, technologies and equipment; 2. Familiarization with the concepts of Metrology, and its application to data acquisition processes; 3. Familiarization with the typical test equipment of the area: multimeters, signal generators, Oscilloscopes; 4. Knowledge of time and frequency signal analysis techniques 5. Familiarization with power factor compensation and circuit resonance 6. Ability to analyze the frequency of elementary circuits, and to apply filters to measurement processes
- 1. Metrology • Measurement methods and fundamental definitions: Range, precision, accuracy, sensitivity, etc.; • Elementary notions of error, uncertainty, units and patterns, presentation of results; • Propagation of uncertainty. 2. Sensors • Passive and active sensors: resistive, capacitive, differential, thermoelectric, Hall effect; • Measuring instruments • Increasing the measuring range of a measuring device • Measuring Pontes 3. Signal Analysis • Signals in time, and operations with complex numbers • Laplace transform • Fourier transform 4. Sinusoidal steady-state analysis • Analysis of linear circuits in sinusoidal steady state. Analysis in the Complex plane. Phasors. Impedance and Reactance. - The scope of this course includes the study of sensors, technologies and test and measurement equipment. The fundamental concepts of Metrology are also taught, with corresponding practical application, through a strong laboratory component. The need to use Metrology then arises naturally throughout the developed work. Topics of signal analysis in time and frequency are also taught, which allow to understand the characteristics of the quantities to be measured, the difficulties of the process, and measures that can be adopted to mitigate these difficulties. Hence, it allows the student to approach measurement systems in an integrated way.

- The teaching methodology of this curricular unit considers an approach focused on the exposure and demonstration of content. The aim is to implement a strong dynamic on the part of students in the search for solutions to solve problems, under the guidance of the teacher. Completion of this curricular unit can be accomplished in two ways: continuous assessment or by final exam. The unit's continuous assessment is organized into two frequencies for the T component (50%), with a minimum classification in each frequency of 8 values. The PL component (50%) is assessed through two works with oral presentation, with a minimum grade of 8 points. The minimmum classification on each component (T e PL) is 9,5. The final assessment is expressed on a scale of 0 to 20 values, and the curricular unit will only be considered successfully completed if the weighted value obtained in the CF calculation is equal to or greater than 9.5 values.
