  • By the end of the course, students will understand: the theoretical foundations of analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog conversion, including architectures, performance metrics, and system applications. They will acquire skills to analyze specifications, apply sampling and quantization theory, and design basic converter circuits using simulation tools. Competences developed include: Integrating converters into mixed-signal systems Solving interface-related engineering problems, and communicating technical information effectively. Knowledge of the state of the art.

  • The methodology combines theoretical lectures, image analysis and guided discussion, articulating multiple approaches to artistic practice and its historical, political and social contexts. An anachronic perspective is adopted, bringing together examples from different periods to encourage comparative readings and critical interpretation. Classes include debates, observation exercises and small research tasks that prompt students to connect theory and practice. Tutorial guidance supports individual development through structured study, writing and argumentation. Whenever possible, visits, meetings with professionals or digital resources complement the work developed in class. The methodology prioritises autonomous critical thinking, analytical rigour and the ability to contextualise artistic production across different times and contexts.

  • Develop a critical understanding of artistic practice in dialogue with different moments of history, adopting an anachronic approach that connects past and present. Identify continuities, shifts and tensions that shape artistic production, strengthening analytical, interpretative and contextual skills. Foster methodological autonomy through research practices that integrate theoretical references, observation, reflection and experimentation. Cultivate awareness of contemporary technological, social, political and cultural issues, understanding their impact on artistic creation and reception. Reinforce communication, argumentation and presentation skills, supporting the development of an independent critical voice.
  • The programme develops an anachronic path through History, connecting key moments to understand how technologies, media and concepts have reshaped artistic production. Through central case studies - from Baroque painting to contemporary practices - it examines themes such as image construction, perception, the relation between technique and meaning, and the shifting role of the viewer. It analyses continuities between traditional media and mechanical or digital devices, highlighting how photography, cinema and hybrid media have redefined ways of representing reality. Movements that transform notions of space, time and materiality, such as Cubism, Dadaism, Surrealism and Abstraction, are addressed in dialogue with current debates on the body, politics, technology and image circulation. The aim is to provide a critical framework that situates contemporary artistic practice within its genealogies.
  • A avaliação é composta por três elementos que articulam pesquisa, prática artística e acompanhamento contínuo:

    • 40% - Apresentação temática
      Exposição de um tema ou problema derivado do programa, complementada por investigação autónoma (desenvolvimentos teóricos, casos de estudo, reflexão crítica). Avalia¿se a capacidade de contextualização, síntese e formulação de questões pertinentes.

    • 50% - Trabalho final prático
      Desenvolvimento de um projeto artístico que integre pesquisa própria, acompanhado de dossier de projeto e relatório explicativo. Avalia¿se a coerência conceptual, o rigor metodológico, a experimentação e a clareza na apresentação.

    • 10% - Avaliação contínua
      Avaliação intercalar e final considerando assiduidade mínima (75% de presenças), participação, pontualidade e envolvimento ao longo do semestre.

    Assessment is composed of three elements that combine research, artistic practice and continuous monitoring:

    • 40% - Thematic presentation
      Oral presentation of a theme or problem derived from the syllabus, supported by autonomous research (theoretical developments, case studies, critical reflection). Evaluation focuses on contextualisation, clarity of argument, synthesis and the ability to formulate relevant questions.

    • 50% - Final practical project
      Development of an artistic project integrating independent research, accompanied by a project dossier and a written report explaining concepts, methods and formal choices. Assessment considers conceptual coherence, methodological rigour, experimentation and quality of presentation.

    • 10% - Continuous assessment
      Ongoing and final evaluation based on attendance (minimum 75%), participation, punctuality and overall engagement throughout the semester.

    A classificação final (CF) da unidade curricular por avaliação contínua é obtida a partir das classificações obtidas na componente escrita (T) e na componente prática (PL). A componente Teórica consta de duas frequências escritas e é relativa aos conteúdos teóricos. A classificação mínima em cada frequência é de 8 valores. A componente prática consta de 2 momentos de avaliação práticos realizados durante as aulas laboratoriais . A classificação mínima de cada momento é de 8 valores. A avaliação contínua do desempenho do aluno nas aulas laboratoriais (10%) A classificação final é calculada a partir da seguinte fórmula: CF = 0,60 T + 0,40 PL. A classificação de todos os instrumentos de avaliação é expressa numa escala de 0 a 20 valores, sendo que o valor ponderado das classificações obtidas tem de ser igual ou superior a 9,5
