- ¿Communication through drawing (free and rigorous) and diverse graphic pieces. In the first semester: development of analytical skills in DU, exploring models of representation. Study visits, in groups or individually. Quick exercises in class to stimulate creativity. Main exercise: Revisiting the Pontal neighbourhood with a focus on collecting, analysing and studying 20th-century neighbourhoods. Theoretical-practical guided work, with an interdisciplinary approach integrating architecture and urbanism. Development of an urban study in three phases: Survey, analysis and characterisation, with different scales of approximation and focus on the neighbourhood. Comparative analysis, relating national and international models. Study and critical analysis, with mapping, issues and hypotheses of urban (re)design. The analysis should be developed, like a proposal, as a field of methodological experimentation and representation.

- Develop experimental urban analysis work based on established neighbourhoods, exploring methodologies of knowledge, representation and intervention. Study the main urban models in urban planning history. Learn to read and interpret the city through urban morphology and building typology. Understand the city through perception (sensory, analogical), information (documentary, human) and cartography (design and legislation). Value fieldwork, documentary research and data collection from population. Distinguish between Urban Design and Urban Planning. Exercise critical thinking on urban issues and identify opportunities for strategic intervention. Develop the ability to design on an urban scale and the fundamentals of technical design and model making. Explore the notions of living space in the city context. Understand the relevance of urban design as an urban regenerator and an instrument for social, economic, cultural, environmental and quality of life improvement in the collective space.

- First semester aims to revisit Pontal Bairro, focusing on the collection, analysis and study of 20th-century neighbourhoods, with an exercise entitled: ‘The city, neighbourhood by neighbourhood. Urban design’. The syllabus includes: Urban planning and the city as historical process The city as a cultural landscape (social, economic and technical synthesis) The construction of the city: formation, evolution, transformation and urban models The city in Portugal: morphology and models Urban regeneration Urban planning and the urban scale Structural elements and units of the city: boundaries, roads, neighbourhoods, intersections and landmarks The built environment: block, plot, building and façade; the detached building Green structure and eco-urbanism Urban forms, grids and networks (system) Urban landscape and perceptible elements Public space: beyond the street and the square Public space: routes and permanence. Uses of space: private space for public use National and international urban plans.
A Avaliação Contínua (AC) é feita com a seguinte ponderação (para cada exercício):
20% 1ª fase: Levantamento, análise e caracterização

20% 3ª fase: Estudo e análise critica
15% 4ª fase: Apresentação oral final das peças (escritas e desenhadas) e discussão crítica pública da proposta
10% Assiduidade, interesse demonstrado e qualidade de participação nas aulas
15% Desenvolvimento individual do aluno e dentro do grupo e participação em Workshops
A apresentação dos elementos de avaliação curricular é feita preferencialmente de modo presencial, podendo ser de modo não presencial, caso esteja em vigor o sistema de ensino à distância.
O Exame consiste na entrega/ melhoria do trabalho do semestre. Poderá ser feita uma prova teórico-prática no dia do exame.
A avaliação em Época de Recurso (ER), é possível nos termos do Regulamento de Avaliação de Conhecimentos do ISMAT.
A avaliação em Época Especial (EE), é possível nos termos do Regulamento de Avaliação de Conhecimentos do ISMAT.

Continuous Assessment (CA) is weighted as follows (for each exercise):
20% Phase 1: Survey, analysis and characterisation
20% Phase 2: Comparative analysis of models
20% Phase 3: Study and critical analysis
15% Phase 4: Final oral presentation of pieces (written and drawn) and public critical discussion of the proposal
10% Attendance, demonstrated interest and quality of participation in classes
15% Individual development of the student and within the group and participation in workshops
The presentation of the curriculum assessment elements is preferably done in person, but may be done remotely if the distance learning system is in place.
The exam consists of the submission/improvement of the semester's work. A theoretical-practical test may be taken on the day of the exam.
Assessment during the Resit Period (ER) is possible under the terms of the ISMAT Knowledge Assessment Regulations.

- DUI focuses on the study of urban space design through the morphological elements of the city, also considering the city's historical strata, urban plans and the different dynamics of public spaces. DUI frames urbanism as a multidisciplinary discipline and uses urban methodological tools, considering the systemic notion of urban context. DUI integrates the contents of urban design, in different territorial and historical contexts, inherent to the training and practice of the architect. DUI focuses on developing critical thinking in relation to urban space and developing design tools on an urban scale. The course aims to provide a studio environment for design and discussion between students and teachers on different topics related to city design. In terms of thematic approach, the first semester aims to revisit a 20th-century neighbourhood, focusing on the collection, analysis and study of its characteristics: the city, neighbourhood by neighbourhood.

- By the end of this course unit, students should be able to: 1. Explore contemporary visual arts languages, methods, and techniques; 2. Investigate and experiment with interdisciplinary artistic processes combining analogue and digital media; 3. Understand artistic expression as a tool for thinking, communication, invention, and personal expression; 4. Develop authorial project skills grounded in sensory and contextual experiences; 5. Apply these competencies in educational settings, adapting them to the cognitive development of learners at different educational levels.
- 1. Definitions and functions of artistic expression: communication, thought, subjectivity, invention; 2. Dimensions of visual language: morphosyntactic, technical, productive, expressive; 3. Traditional drawing and the expanded field: shadow photography, collage, experimental animation; 4. The body in motion and sensory experience: creating through the five senses; 5. Atlases, archives, and constellations: pathways and strategies for artistic research and creation; 6. Introduction to the artist’s notebook and other forms of visual and sensory documentation as reflective and pedagogical practice.
A avaliação da unidade curricular assenta numa lógica formativa e contínua, integrando os módulos desenvolvidos por cada um dos três docentes. Cada um dos 3 segmentos será lecionado por um docente, trazendo visões distintas e complementares, e será avaliado mediante trabalhos práticos exploratórios (exercícios e ensaios artísticos), aferindo ainda a participação, assiduidade e envolvimento colaborativo. Dada a natureza de cada segmento, os critérios de avaliação poderão ser distintos, devendo ser apresentados aos alunos pelos respectivos docentes. As notas atribuídas em cada segmento serão somadas e divididas por 3, chegando-se à nota final.

Avaliação por exame:
- Os alunos que não tenham obtido classificação positiva no regime de avaliação contínua têm acesso ao regime de exame (100%).
