  • Metodologias que articulam teoria e prática e a construção do conhecimento pelos estudantes. Em extensão de aulas tradicionais sobre os conteúdos programáticos, propõe-se uma permanente atitude de investigação e pesquisa. Encoraja-se o aprender fazendo, que é fundamental para a compreensão dos processos de criação de livros, um suporte artístico privilegiado na Especialização Livro Artista deste CE. Aprender e/ou recordar técnicas (aparentemente simples) como cortar, dobrar e colar com rigor é fundamental na formação nas técnicas de encadernação manual. Assim, a exemplificação dos procedimentos, a explanação das etapas passo-a-passo em sala de aula, permitem que os estudantes construam os seus protótipos (livros em branco) na diversidade de formatos que o livro pode assumir, bem como o vocabulário específico e inerente à encadernação manual. As aulas são teórico-práticas com a presença do docente que acompanha o trabalho dos estudantes.

  • Dar a conhecer a história e anatomia do livro enquanto objeto. Dar a conhecer vários suportes e finalidades do objeto livro. Dar a conhecer o âmbito, e algumas técnicas de encadernação. Promover a experimentação e a descoberta de processos de encadernação manual. Aprofundar através de trabalho prático, algumas técnicas de encadernação.
  • Noções teóricas sobre a história do livro. Contextualização histórica, geográfica e clarificação terminológica (distinguir o livro ilustrado, o livro artístico e livro de artista), formatos e possibilidades do objeto livro. Ferramentas específicas de encadernação. Materiais específicos de encadernação. Técnicas específicas de encadernação. Criação de suportes e materiais individuais. Introdução à encadernação sem costuras - livro acordeão, livro diamante, livro borboleta, livro envelope. Introdução à encadernação com costuras - caderno cosido (vários métodos), encadernação japonesa. Projeto final - livro de artista com uma narrativa visual usando uma ou mais técnicas exploradas na aula que demonstre coerência entre miolo, capa e estrutura.  

  • Assessment prioritizes the formative dimension, taking into account several (simple) bookbinding projects with blank inner pages, as well as one (complex) final Artist's Book Project.
    20% - Continuous Assessment: Participation, attendance (75% of classes with mandatory presence), and cooperation.

    30% - 1st Midterm Assessment: Presentation of the simple bookbinding projects.
    30%     - 2nd Midterm Assessment: Final project - Presentation of the Artist's Book.
    20% - Final Assessment: Presentation of all completed and revised objects, incorporating feedback from previous assessments, and submission of a documentary portfolio covering all completed objects.
    The criteria for all assessment moments are based on the accuracy of procedures, the quality of finishes, the relevance of chosen materials, and the fulfillment of methodological and technical steps for the various types of bookbinding. Timely submission of the finished objects is required.
    Exam: The exam consists of two components: a written test (40%) and the presentation of the completed semester projects (60%). It is open to students who wish to improve their grade, those who fail the final assessment (with a grade below 10), and those who fail due to unjustified absences.

Organizational/hierarchical structure of companies: positions /responsibilities, departments, labour relations, leading and motivating. 3. Oral communication: on the phone, presentations, interviews 4. Written communication: structuring texts (emails, memos, reports) 5. Translation problems: Brithis English vs. American English, false friends, polysemy   6. Technical English: technology and machines, future challenges
