• In accordance with the reflective and exploratory nature of this course unit, students are expected to experiment with different tools and working methods. The aim is to diversify reflection approaches.   M1: Lectures; M2: Text analysis groups; M3: Collective discussion; M4: Individual written reflections; M5: Guided group work; M6: Public presentations.

• History of the City II aims to confront the past in order to understand the present and, eventually, project a future, and not as an end in itself. To this end, it is intended that students will be able to:   O1: Know - various interpretations, perspectives, and protagonists regarding the organization of cities through texts and projects at a high level; O2: Investigate - mapping the genealogy of the city's building materials, from the ideas to the means of their production; O3: Reflect - on these positions in an intelligent and critical way, transferring them to new situations arising from contemporary architectural practice, both their own and that of others. O4: Communicate - a well-developed, argued, and justified position, demonstrated with consistent, clear, and objective examples, with a coherent, logical, and rigorous reasoning structure, through a well-articulated discourse in the instruction and organization of oral, written, and graphic records.

• UC will question some of the transformations and expansions of contemporary cities as a reaction to specific phenomena and their material realization, attempting to understand their historical roots. Starting from a set of works and texts, it will study how architects, individually, responded to these events with their projects, what interpretations they have of the city, and what they bring to their construction. But it will also reflect on what contemporary readings and interpretations are made of these actions and how they can contribute to the elaboration of the project today.   P1: Speculation - and the vacant territory; P2: Globalization - and the generic city; P3: Regeneration - and to whom the Earth belongs; P4: Mapping - and the means of production.

• Frequently, the notion of history, from the perspective of the writer, involves a linear and impartial narration of various events that contribute, even inadvertently, to a certain inevitability of the past. Similarly, the city, in the disciplinary context of architecture, is usually read as an autonomous object, immune to external constraints. This course aims to question these assumptions and interrogate the very concept of history and city, extending this reflection beyond traditional disciplinary boundaries. History will be considered a partial account made up of multiple retrospective presents situated in time and space. The city, as the materialization of a set of forces resulting from the most varied power relations that have taken place over time in that specific space. Understanding how these "presents" and "forces" have significant implications and can be applied to current design practice is the contribution of this course.

O2: Apply planning indices and municipal parameters in programme definition and develop an urban regeneration strategy articulating density, permeability, mixed uses and ecological infrastructure. O3: Design collective housing solutions suited to contemporary contexts, integrating well-founded typological models. O4: Integrate construction systems, environmental performance and carbon intensity assessment (embodied and operational emissions). O5: Produce rigorous technical representation at urban and building scales, substantiating design decisions critically.

The course operates across urban form, collective housing, public space and construction systems, integrating environmental requirements and carbon intensity. Its relevance lies in bridging methodological reflection and operative application, preparing students to intervene in regulated contexts with technical consistency, feasibility and climate responsibility.
