• By the end of the semester, students should achieve the following learning objectives: O1: Ability to analyze, synthesize, reason critically, organize discourse, and demonstrate rigor associated with research. O2: Acquisition of theoretical and practical skills related to research in architecture. O3: Mastery of the relationship between research and design, including the practical application of these aspects in the dissertation. O4: Ability to classify and organize information, generate evaluation criteria, order, and structure. O5: Mastery of the skills necessary for formulating a dissertation proposal.

• S1: The first week will be dedicated to the presentation of the course unit: areas of knowledge, practice, evaluation, and ethics. S2: The first part of the semester, approximately 6 weeks, will be dedicated to the general theme of research in architecture as a tool to support the practice of research-based design, as well as the development of academic production, such as articles, presentations, or dissertations. The basic reference in this phase will be the work "Architectural Research Methods" by Linda Groat and David Wang. S3: In the second phase of the semester, approximately 7 weeks, the issue of research and dissertation writing within the integrated master's program in architecture will be specifically addressed, from the plan to public discussion. The basic reference in this phase will be the work "The Dissertation: A Guide for Architecture Students" by Ian Borden and Katerina Ruedi Ray. S4: The last week will be dedicated to evaluation.

• The objective of this course unit is to guide and support students in architectural research (as a central design tool), seeking to clarify and strengthen their knowledge of its practices and methods through the exercise of analysis, synthesis, and hypothesis formulation, simultaneously consolidating the student's knowledge for research-based design practice and the preparation of the dissertation. The Research Methods course unit, as a theoretical-practical discipline, is developed according to a tutorial practice, supported by theoretical classes and specific exercises. In parallel with the personalized monitoring of the development of the research work, from its beginning to its presentation, there is a theoretical teaching practice, where the following are addressed: specific themes related to the development of the design act; the dissertation (from its planning to its public discussion) and themes of architectural culture.

• Preparation of a practical project involving territorial analysis and a planning proposal. Groups of students will be formed to jointly carry out an analysis of a specific area (local scale), addressing its various components (physical and social), including a general analysis of the area, and proposing solutions for it in accordance with regulations and/or suggesting changes that enable the adoption of measures aligned with the defined objectives for the territory, the development of which may be compromised by the established rules (critical thinking). By developing proposals for a specific location, in accordance with regulations and taking into account social and formal complexities, students become familiar with concrete problems, making them better equipped to face the challenges of the future.

• The learning objectives are: identify and know how to use the territorial management tools applicable to project development; understand territorial planning policies and tools, their dynamics and applicability; apply territorial analysis as a factor in architectural practice; understand transdisciplinary relationships within the territorial context; coordinate and reconcile different approaches, finding the best solutions for the territory/communities;

• Through lectures and based on the development of a practical project, the course content is as follows: the preparation of spatial plans [from analysis to proposal (practical)]: analysis of the territory, factors to be considered in understanding the territory with a view to intervention; the proposal and its alignment with regulatory elements and development needs; the management of the implementation of defined measures (over time); monitoring, dynamics and territorial management; architectural elements and the urban context.
