  • The objectives of the curricular unit are as follows: Identify the structure of the network operating system, its architecture, and working philosophy. Explore the system through its interfaces and base applications. Automate tasks using scripts appropriate to the system environment. Understand and utilize network support utilities and tools. Explore the technologies for implementing the functionalities of this architecture. Install the server operating system. Install and distinguish between resident and installable device drivers. Configure the server operating system. Optimize the operating system. Perform backups and understand fault protection systems. Define and configure user accounts. Manage resources. Characterize, install, and configure the DHCP service. Characterize, install, and configure the DNS service. Characterize, install, and configure data routing services. Characterize, install, and configure web server services.

Client-Server System Architecture (Overview) - What is a network operating system; most relevant features - Philosophy of the system regarding its usage - Server Operating System Installation 2. System usage environment - Users - Creation and configuration of accounts - User login and authentication - User workspace - Scripts (most commonly used commands) and logon scripts - Server operating system optimization - Backup and fault protection systems - Resource management - Administration tools 3.Network Protocols and Services - TCP/IP (relationship with other services: DNS or WINS) 4.DHCP Service - DHCP functionality - DHCP installation and configuration: Using DHCP Manager and managing scopes - Static clients and address reservation 5. DNS Service - DNS functionality - Name space and zones - Types of DNS servers - DNS installation and configuration: Using DNS Manager, creating zones, adding records - Integration with WINS - Routing services 6. Web Servers - Internet Information Server (IIS) - FTP - Apache

The equipment that makes up the servers included in the academy's rack will be used for demonstration purposes. Project and problem-based learning, case studies and seminars and discussions will also be used.
