  • The curricular unit is articulated with the CU History of the Cities, with joint sessions on Thursdays dedicated to the presentation of contents, case study analysis, and public debate of the projects. This articulation is structured to ensure that both CUs remain independent. On Fridays, work takes place in the studio, in a laboratory format, with close guidance from the teaching staff. The project is divided into two phases: — Proposal for the architectural transformation of the urban space (12 weeks, group work of up to 2 students) — Preliminary design of a building (4 weeks, individual work) The design process will be developed using a digital 3D model (tool 1), 3D printing (tool 2), and both analogue and digital drawing. Continuous assessment will consider: process quality, thematic coherence, graphic rigor, and clarity in the final presentation of the dossier. A blog, with mandatory subscription, will support communication between teaching staff and students.

  • The UC aims to develop critical and design capacity, foster an understanding of contemporary urban systems, and support the production of situated, coherent, and well-grounded architectural proposals. Students are expected to acquire knowledge of urban metabolism, planetary boundaries, and energy and ecological transition, as well as skills in territorial analysis, simulation, design synthesis, representation, and project communication. The competences to be developed include: — Critical reading of complex urban territories — Ability to synthesise across different scales and systems — Development of spatial proposals anchored in place and time — Mastery of both analogue and digital design tools — Active participation in processes of debate and collective critique

  • The structure of the curricular unit is based on seven thematic axes: food, energy, water, soil, waste, climate, and housing. These themes are addressed as interdependent systems that play a decisive role in defining the architectural project. The approach draws on updated scientific data (IPCC AR6 SYR, UN-Habitat, UN), strategic documents of the European Union (Green Deal, Renovation Wave, EPBD, Nature Restoration Law), and analysis of the urban context of the intervention area. The city is understood as a human and territorial ecosystem. The site is studied through its layouts, morphology, uses, and social, economic, and symbolic dynamics. The final proposal stems from reflection on urban metabolism and articulates housing, public space, nature, and collective uses, highlighting the role of architecture in the regeneration of the urban territory.

  • Contact hours will be of a theoretical-practical nature, with the syllabus being presented using, whenever possible, examples illustrating the topics covered. In this sense, the use of the expository method should be combined with the interrogative and active methods, using the ABP (problem-based learning) methodology, in order to stimulate discussion and critical analysis of the syllabus and thus favour understanding and the acquisition of knowledge. Assessment will be based on a test and practical work to be carried out individually in class. It will be based on the following weightings: - Assessment test: 50 per cent of the final mark; - Final practical work: 40% of the final mark (work produced in class); - Participation and attendance: 10% of the final mark;

  • The aim is for students to acquire a set of critical tools that will enable them to Identify and substantiate the fundamental concepts, theories and practices of conservation and restoration of buildings and sites; Identify the intervention principles and methodological guidelines enshrined in the main doctrinal reference documents; Recognise the current problems and ways of approaching urban rehabilitation and evaluate the different rehabilitation intervention processes in buildings.

  • Preparation of a practical analysis of the territory and planning proposal. Groups of students will be formed to jointly prepare an analysis of a specific territory (scale to be determined), addressing the different components (physical/social) and concluding with a general analysis of the territory, applying the knowledge acquired and developing techniques to respond to the challenges. In a second stage, based on this territorial analysis, each student will carry out their own analysis, identifying the advantages and constraints of the territory and proposing solutions (textual/diagrams/drawings). Based on this analysis (Strengths, Threats, Weaknesses and Opportunities), the student develops a proposed Plan for the territory (choosing the scale and scope of action according to the intended purpose). This allows the exercise to be used across the board as a tool to stimulate the consolidation of knowledge.

  • The learning objectives are: To understand the planning system and its relevance to development; To identify the different agents and actors in the field of urban planning and their participation in the development of plans; To understand the relationship between urban planning and architectural work; To understand the mechanisms of territorial analysis and their importance for the definition of territorial planning policies and instruments; To understand transdisciplinary relationships within the territory; To be able to coordinate and reconcile different approaches, finding the best solutions for the territory/communities;
