  • Teaching Methods: Theoretical classes using an expository method – theoretical presentations with discussion of the syllabus content. Theoretical-practical classes based on practical exercises, problem-solving, and case discussions; analysis of documents and neuropsychological assessment tests. Conducting research in databases and preparing/presenting group projects. Assessment: Written test (50%) – date to be determined. Clinical case study (45%) Attendance and participation in class activities (5%)
  • Optional
  • Objectives: Acquire knowledge about the neuropsychological approach and its relationship with human behavior. Specifically, understand different neuropsychological syndromes and recognize them through cognitive analysis and behavioral observation. Gain familiarity with neuropsychological assessment methodologies. Critically analyze specialized literature in the field. Understand neuropsychological deficits and integrate cognitive aspects with neurofunctional processes. Comprehend the relationship between neuropsychological changes, activities of daily living (ADLs), and emotional dynamics. Grasp the principles, objectives, and specifics of neuropsychological assessment and the models that support it. Gain a basic understanding of the anatomy, histology, and embryonic origin of the central nervous system. Become familiar with neuroimaging study methods, such as electroencephalography (EEG) and nuclear magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
  • Conceptual and Historical Framework of Neuropsychology The cerebral lobes: functions and associated syndromes. Deficits related to cognitive functions: visuospatial processing, attention, memory, language, executive functions, and consciousness. Numerical cognition, emotion, and affect. Neuropsychological examination and assessment. Anatomophysiology, histophysiology, and embryogenesis of the central nervous system. Fetal brain development vulnerabilities associated with exposure, correlation, and causality. Development of specific functions and in utero neuroanatomical foundations that enable learning.

  • The Introduction to Neuropsychology course provides a fundamental analysis of the principles and methods of neuropsychology, exploring the intersection between the brain and behavior. Students will be introduced to the foundations of neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, and cognitive neuropsychology, as well as the study of neurological disorders and their behavioral manifestations. Through a multidisciplinary approach, students will develop a critical understanding of the biological bases of human behavior and the clinical applications of neuropsychology.
