- ME1 – Interactive theoretical-practical exposition: structured presentation of the syllabus content, supported by guided examples and the use of digital tools (e.g., Excel). ME2 – Resolution of practical cases and applied problems: exercises inspired by real-life situations of savings, investment, and financing, developed individually and in groups. ME3 – Challenge-Based Learning: mini-projects in which students analyse credit or investment proposals and justify decisions, simulating the role of a manager. ME4 – Digital resources and artificial intelligence: supervised use of support tools (spreadsheets and generative AI) for comparison of results, validation of calculations, and the development of critical thinking regarding limitations and risks. ME5 – Continuous feedback and self-assessment: quick digital quizzes throughout the classes, enabling students to monitor their progress against the intended learning outcomes.

- LO1 – Explain and apply the fundamental concepts of the time value of money, interest, and interest rates. LO2 – Compute and interpret capitalization and discounting operations of capital at different points in time. LO3 – Identify, distinguish, and calculate the values of different types of financial annuities. LO4 – Analyze and compare loan amortization methods, applying appropriate financial mathematics techniques. LO5 – Use digital and analytical tools to support the resolution of practical financial mathematics problems.
- The Financial Mathematics course unit addresses the fundamental concepts required to understand the time value of money and to analyse financial operations commonly encountered in management. The syllabus is structured progressively, beginning with the basic principles of interest and interest rates, and subsequently covering techniques of compounding and discounting, capital equivalence, annuities, and loans. Questionários de Escolha Multiple Digitais (Microsoft Forms)
Cada quiz digital terá 5 perguntas de escolha múltipla e valerá 0,5 valores (4 valores no total). A classificação será binária:
- Se o estudante tiver no máximo uma resposta errada, acrescenta 0,5 valores à nota final da unidade curricular;
- Se tiver mais de uma resposta errada, a classificação do quiz será 0 valores.
O aluno terá 10 minutos para responder e poderá consultar livremente informação e recorrer à IAGen. Não poderá comunicar com os seus colegas enquanto responde ao quiz, sob pena de ter uma avaliação de 0 valores no quiz, sem prejuízo de outras medidas previstas no regulamento do ISMAT.
Análise Produto Financeiro (6 valores)
Consiste numa apresentação, realizada em grupos de 2 alunos, de uma análise de um produto financeiro (por exemplo, um empréstimo bancário, uma conta poupança, um depósito a prazo ou um produto de investimento simples).
O grupo deve:
- Identificar e caracterizar o produto, apresentando as principais condições (capital, prazo, taxa, comissões, etc.);
- Construir uma folha de cálculo auditável (Excel, Google Sheets ou equivalente) que permita fazer simulações;
- Explicar os cálculos realizados (fórmulas, funções usadas, pressupostos adotados);
- Interpretar os resultados obtidos, apresentando conclusões sobre a atratividade e os riscos do produto para um gestor ou consumidor.
O aluno poderá recorrer à IAGen da seguinte forma:
- Apoio na construção da folha de cálculo: sugerir fórmulas em Excel ou alternativas para simulação, sempre com verificação manual pelo grupo;
- Validação dos Resultados e das Conclusões: validar os resultados obtidos, identificar incoerências nos cálculos ou sugerir formas de apresentação gráfica (tabelas, gráficos);
- Exploração de cenários alternativos: utilização da IA para propor variações simples (alteração de taxa, prazo ou montante) e analisar a sensibilidade do produto a essas alterações, sempre com cálculos confirmados no ficheiro construído pelo grupo;
- A decisão final e a interpretação crítica permanecem responsabilidade do grupo.
Teste de Avaliação (10 valores)
O teste final da UC será de natureza prática, incidindo sobre os conteúdos programáticos lecionados. Consistirá em exercícios que exigem a aplicação de fórmulas e raciocínio financeiro, com resolução detalhada na própria folha de teste.
O Aluno poderá levar até uma folha A4, preenchida dos dois lados, com informação que considere importante para o teste (Ex: fórmulas, exemplos de cálculos, etc...)

- The Financial Mathematics course unit provides the fundamental knowledge required to understand and apply the time value of money in the analysis of financial operations. It is an essential tool in business management, enabling the evaluation of financing, saving, and investment options, as well as the comparison of different capital allocation alternatives. The course plays a key role in preparing managers to make informed and well-founded decisions, using financial calculation techniques and digital tools for support. It also establishes the foundation for more advanced courses in finance and investment analysis, strengthening the connection between theoretical concepts and practical management applications.

Its scope focuses on urban regeneration in a real context, taking the consolidated city and its regulatory framework as the field of action. The course operates across urban form, collective housing, public space and construction systems, integrating environmental requirements and carbon intensity. Its relevance lies in bridging methodological reflection and operative application, preparing students to intervene in regulated contexts with technical consistency, feasibility and climate responsibility.
