- The objectives of this course are to develop the problematic underlying Business Finance, addressing the formulation of the most important questions that are posed to the financial activity of a company, that is, the concepts, methods and tools that support analysis and decision-making of the company's financial decisions, namely investment and financing decisions. The approach to the different decisions will be based on the basic paradigm of maximizing the value of the company and its owners. Students are expected to acquire skills in the process of analysis and evaluation of any company, business or investment project, always from the perspective of value creation. It is also expected that students will acquire specific skills in decision-making within the business organization, either on the investments side or on the financing side.

The integration of theory and practice allows students to progressively apply the concepts of scientific methodology in the development of a research project. Classes include moments of dialogue, critical reflection, quizzes and case studies, promoting engagement and scientific thinking. The use of digital tools to support the organisation of academic work, such as Mendeley, reinforces academic literacy and autonomy. Finally, ethical debates and discussions stimulate scientific communication and epistemic responsibility.

- By the end of the course unit, the students are expected to be able to: Apply basic concepts of research philosophy and critical reasoning to the realization of academic works. Differentiate between various research approaches and select the most appropriate for their project. Conduct research that generates valid results in an ethical manner. Deconstruct a research project between its different stages and acts. Formulate a clear, feasible and relevant starting question. Carry out a process of exploration that is appropriate to the research problem. Define a problematic of study and express it through questions and/or hypotheses. - This curricular unit consists in an initiation to the fundaments of academic investigation, focusing on the most used methods in social and business sciences, and particularly in tourism research. More specifically, the curricular unit addresses: general concepts of academic research, an introduction to the scientific method, different research approaches in social sciences, research ethics, and a detailed approach of the social sciences research process. The latter includes the definition of the research question, exploration, problem definition, and planning of data collection and analysis.
