- Theoretical teaching: Master classes following the program defined according to the objectives of the course. The method used is expository and interactive in order to provide student knowledge and facilitate continuous assessment. Theoretical-practical teaching: interactive classes with compulsory frequency following the program defined according to the objectives of the course. It uses pedagogical techniques such as lecture, small group work, simulation and role playing. The student will practice under teaching guidance, some subjects taught in lectures. Assessment: The approval in the course requires obtaining a final grade equal to or greater than 9.5 and a minimum of 8.0 at all established assessment times. Students who fail or do not opt for continuous assessment will be assessed in the final assessment.

- Has knowledge of the philosophy of nursing care, the history of nursing as a science and art of caring; Understands the concepts of Scientific Methodology in Nursing and the steps of the Nursing Process; Understand the basics of classified language used in nursing (CIPE Version 2). Know the concepts and techniques of client / family approach; It understands the need to respect the rights, autonomy, dignity and customer privacy / family; Recognize their own values and beliefs and how they can interfere with the professional practice; It recognizes that trust and mutual respect are the basis for a good relationship and maintaining high standards of customer care / family; Know the customer valuation techniques, implementation of care and records; Understand the implications of clinical risk and nonclinical in the provision of health care; It recognizes the importance of scientific evidence in customer care.
- Description of theoretical, theoretical-practical and laboratory content: 1. History of Nursing: Evolution of Nursing as a discipline and profession 2. Scientific methodology in care delivery: models and theories of nursing. Roper, Logan and Terney model 3. Daily Living Activities by Nancy Roper 4. Nursing Process: Stages of the Nursing Process (with case application) 5. International Classification for Nursing Practice (with case application) 6. Health Concepts - Illness. Health Care Levels, Health Education 7. Safety culture of the care environment. Universal precautionary measures, Healthcare Associated Infection. Waste and hospital treatment. Basic Infection Control Precautions. Containment Measures.

Para cada momento de avaliação a classificação mínima será de 8,5 valores, sem esta o estudante não é aprovado no regime de avaliação continua e ingressa no regime de avaliação por exame.
Para efeitos de aprovação na Unidade Curricular, o estudante deverá obter uma classificação mínima de 9,5 valores.
O regime de avaliação contempla três provas escritas:-
O 1.º teste incidirá sobre a matéria lecionada até à respetiva data de realização;

O 2.º teste abrangerá exclusivamente a matéria lecionada no período compreendido entre o 1.º teste e a respetiva realização;
-
O 3.º teste irá incluir a totalidade dos conteúdos programáticos abordados ao longo da Unidade Curricular.

- The course Fundamentals of Nursing I recommends the presentation, reflection and debate on the epistemology of nursing, the evolution of nursing as a discipline and profession environment, the scientific methodology and its application in praxis, resources and tools facilitating care, unplotting in the student the awareness of its centrality in the learning process.
