  • The contact hours will be theoretical and practical in nature, with the syllabus content being presented using illustrative examples of the topics covered, whenever possible. In this sense, the use of the expository method should be combined with the interrogative and active methods, using the PBL (problem-based learning) methodology, in order to stimulate discussion and critical analysis of the syllabus content and thus promote understanding and knowledge acquisition. Assessment will be based on a theoretical-practical exercise to be developed individually. It will be based on the following weightings: •    Attendance and participation: 30% of the final mark; •    Theoretical-practical exercise: 70% of the final mark.
  • Mandatory
  • The aim is for students to strengthen their skills and awareness of the relevance of sustainability and circularity in the context of the project exercise.  They should be able to: Recognise and explain the relevance of sustainable development applied to different scales - urban and built; Reflect on the environmental impacts associated with the different phases of a building's life cycle. Apply the principles and strategies of sustainability and circularity within the scope of a practical exercise.

  • Mandatory
  • By the end of the semester, students should achieve the following learning objectives: O1: Ability to define, organize, and develop a project formalizing a critical reflection, with a unique thematic program, embedded in a physical and cultural context. O2: Mastery of research methodologies through the Project. O3: Consolidation of the methodologies and procedural criteria of professional practice.
  • DAAD - Department of Architecture, Arts and Design
  • S1: Research Methodology. Consolidate the methodologies of a research process in a Project, associated with a parallel theoretical foundation. Combine the specific criteria for the development of the individual project with the defined research objectives. Enhance a theoretical analysis that includes the various steps of the Project process, within the scope of the chosen scientific area. S2: Argumentation. Indicate a solution to a category of problems and generate new knowledge. Demonstrate how existing knowledge can be applied to new projects. Establish a critical confrontation with the State of the Art. S3: Public Defense. Present an Integrated Master's Dissertation that expresses the achievement of the objectives and competencies described above, as well as the proficiency of the new architect. .

  • The curricular unit of Project Work / Dissertation is unique and indivisible, and the Dissertation consists of the Project itself, a written / argumentative part and the respective drawings, or, as an option, the candidate can choose a theoretical dissertation, relating to the discipline of architecture, in both cases accompanied by the respective Project teachers in partnership with the respective Thesis' Advisor. The objective of this UC (curricular unit) is to guide and support the student in the elaboration of the Thesis for the Integrated Master in Architecture, seeking to clarify and strengthen their knowledge of the research by design methodology, while preparing the candidate for the dissertation's final defense. The UC is developed according to a tutorial practice, supported by lectures and specific exercises.
